What? The actual yoga system is not the bodily gymnastics – it’s for a jnana or sankya yogi to develop self control. This system of ashtanga yoga is getting exploited because people want to lose weight. Pathetic – the most important benefits are being neglected while only cheap pebbles are getting picked.

I started Yoga for the VERY 1ST TIME yesterday (1.5.10) @ Sunstone Yoga Uptown Dallas & I enjoyed hot yoga, as my body is & will adjust maybe fast… with me being a dancer. I’ve never done yoga before, and my muscles aren’t very strong. When I try some of these poses (especially downward dog), my arms get very very shaky. Is that normal?
Traditional yoga is for inner and outer balance. Your best bet, if you’re wanting to lose weight is to actually perform yoga programs designed for weight loss. There are specific programs designed to build more heat through more movement and capturing that heat in your body.
@HeroFlame – I agree. just bending to even try to touch my toes without bending my knees puts me in pain

@babblingbeauty- it might help a little, but if you were to choose yoga for w8 lose, it would take much longer than working out or other techniques
